Europe's most populous country lies on Central European Time, which is one hour behind Greenwich Mean Time. German stores and businesses close at 5 p.m. local time, nine hours after they open in the U.S., while American stores and businesses shut down at 3 a.m. German schools release students two hours before American schools do so.

The connection between Germany and America's eastern time zone was established in 1871 when the German Empire annexed the independent state of Prussia. Prior to this time, Berlin had been six hours ahead of New York City.

In 1945, following World War II, West Germany and East Germany agreed to be 15 minutes apart in order to reduce uncertainty about their futures. In 1955, West Germany joined the European Economic Community, an organization that would become known as the European Union. The EU has its own parliament, courts, and administration based in Brussels. In 1990, East Germany declared itself a separate nation called Russia. However, Germany remains united.

Since Germany is part of the European Union, it shares its time with other countries including France, Italy, and Britain.

Is France 6 hours ahead of us?

France's center is 8 hours ahead of the center of the United States. We are utilizing the time zones of the United States (Denver) and France (Paris). France is one hour behind Spain and one hour ahead of Germany.

The official time in France is published by Radio France. It uses the same system of clocks that we use in the United States. French engineers worked with Americans to develop this plan for sharing time across the Atlantic Ocean. The agreement was called the Hague Convention after the Dutch city where it was signed in 1883.

Under this system, France is 6 hours ahead of us at midnight. German time is 3 hours ahead of French time. British time is 1 hour behind French time. I believe that you know the rest of the countries in Europe.

French schools begin at 08:00 and end at 16:00. American schools start at 8:30 and end at 15:00. So, students in France will be up at a normal morning time and will not need an afternoon nap like children in America do.

French companies have two daily shifts: from 7:00 to 12:00 and from 13:00 to 20:00.

How far ahead is German time?

Germany entered the time zone it still uses today by advancing clocks across the country by 6 minutes and 32 seconds in 1893. It is one hour earlier than the present time standard, Coordinated Universal Time (UTC).

The advancement was part of a plan to reduce political tension between Germany's northern and southern states after they had voted on separate times zones in 1892. The plan worked: The southern state of Bavaria moved its clock back while North Rhine-Westphalia kept running with its new time.

Today, Germany is always on UTC+1 time but if it wants to sleep in its own bed while still being on American Eastern Standard Time, it can do so by setting its clock back one hour. This would put Germany on UTC+2 until midnight when it advances one hour again, bringing it up to UTC+3.

In World War I, Germany went back to GMT for military purposes and since then has never looked back.

Nowadays, Germany is the only major European power that continues to use this old system instead of adopting Summer Time as used by most of Europe.

Although most of Germany is on UTC+1, there are three regions that follow their own rules: Bavaria, Hamburg, and Schleswig-Holstein.

Germany is on Central European Time, which is 1 hour later than Europe East Standard Time, 4 hours earlier than Europe Central Standard Time, and 2 hours ahead of Africa South of the Sahara. France is 1 hour ahead of Germany, and England is 5 hours behind Germany.

The time in Berlin is the same as that in London, Paris, and Rome.

All over Germany, the time is delayed by 1 hour.

In Switzerland, Austria, and the rest of Europe, Germany is seen during daylight savings time, so their time is 1 hour ahead of Berlin's time.

Switzerland has daylight saving time, but only in certain regions of the country, so the time difference between Berlin and Zurich is only 3 hours.
