Southwest Airlines has launched new service at Des Moines International Airport in Iowa. Southwest will arrive in Iowa on a bigger Boeing 737. This will result in a roughly 200 percent increase in Southwest seats available in Des Moines. Prior to the entrance of Southwest, AirTran offered 100 seats each day. Now, there are more than 300 daily flights between Des Moines and the rest of the country.
Iowa is the largest state without any major airports. Des Moines is the only airport with commercial service. It is owned by the city but operated by an agency called Metro Transit. In addition to Southwest, United and American also operate out of Des Moines.
The new flight will leave Des Moines at 5:20 am every morning and arrive in Phoenix at 10:10 pm. The return flight will leave Phoenix at 3:50 pm and arrive in Des Moines at 8:50 pm. Both flights will be using new equipment from Southwest. The plane will be nearly full on both trips, which means you should be able to find seating even if you miss your connection.
If you want to go to Southwestern Iowa Community College, all you have to do is get on the plane. The school is three miles from the airport. The ride is free for students, who can pay $10 per trip outside of school days.
There are no bus connections between Des Moines and Southwestern.

The news comes less than two months after United Airlines canceled all its flights to and from Fresno due to low passenger traffic. At one point, nearly 100 flights were canceled at the Fresno airport each month. But under new management, the airport has seen an increase in passengers lately. In October 2016, the airport saw more than 1 million passengers, which was up about 5 percent from the previous year.
However, the number of flights remains relatively the same as last year, when there were almost 200 daily departures to more than 70 cities across the country.

Airline staff is usually very friendly and helpful, if a little formal. You won't get too many funny looks or awkward pauses while checking in or waiting for boarding to start. However, since this is a relatively small company there's a good chance you might know someone on board (or worse yet, work with someone who travels often).
The average age of crew members varies by position but overall is fairly young, probably around 40 years old. This isn't unusual for an all-cargo airline though, since they need people who can handle long hours in less than comfortable conditions.
